Hi! I would like to introduce you to Literacy in the Leaves.
Literacy in the Leaves is based in the beautiful county of Derbyshire, and provides support, advice and information for (primarily KS2) educators who want to integrate the outdoors into their literacy practice. I visit schools to provide training and to work with children, and also run courses in magical woodland venues. In addition to this, I have recently started working with some inspirational home schools.
Learning outdoors for 7-11s is often seen as an extra-curricular activity; my aim is to show how nature can be incorporated daily to progress children’s learning. The imagination and curiosity of children never ceases to fill me wonder, and using the outdoors as a stimulus for teaching literacy taps into this, and has the added benefit of making children’s learning experiential, relevant, memorable and fun; as a result, I have seen their writing skills flourish time and time again!
