What's next for The Wild Network?
Would you become one of our on the ground ambassadors and inspire others to live a hi-tech hi-nature life to be more wild?
We are living in a very busy world, where our attention is in huge demand, and the technology in our pockets and homes is demanding more and more of us. The need for The Wild Network has never felt more acute. In our 5 year journey, we’ve discovered some of the barriers and challenges this fast paced techno-centric society faces, and the need to navigate a way to rebalance our lives to be more wild.
The screen is no doubt a great invention and tool but we seem to be turning to it for answers to everything in our lives.
We want to co-create a field guide for a re-wilded life, inspiration from the streets, parks and edgelands, a living manifesto created from the ideas and voices of kids, teenagers, parents and communities - a map for navigating the challenges of the digital world, a manifesto for a wilder life.
We are all familiar with the power of the outdoors and its importance in living a healthy life. Our ongoing mission is to help people live a wilder life, connected and grounded in the 21st century.
The problem facing us all, particularly children, is that as we are spending more time in front of screens, research shows it’s having a damaging effect on our health and wellbeing, on our relationships and with less time spent in nature, children are losing their connection with it. And without connection to nature there is no protection of it.
This is why we are launching this experiment.
How are children, parents and communities dealing with complexity of this pervasive digital world?
Screens are a part of our lives and they are here to stay. So we need to work out a way of harnessing the beneficial aspects of a digital society and at the same time promote value in disconnection from technology, time outside, reconnection with nature and ultimately a relationship with the natural world.
Granted, screen time can make us feel connected to the outdoors and can be part of the solution to getting more people outdoors but we believe that there is a space in-between, where it is possible to be hi-tech and hi-nature and we want to help bridge that gap. We want to create ways to help children/teens/adults re-wild their daily lives and to manage and explore the indoor/outdoor balance.
We're looking for 10 amazing kids, teenagers, and parents to be vloggers over the next 10 weeks? Are you one of them? Or do you know someone who could be?
We want to know what it's like to be a 13 year old longing for open space in a polluted city. Or a mum trying to get her kids offline and outside on a wet Saturday morning. Or a dad with no idea where nature is, but wants to build confidence. And from communities who have been wrestling with these problems and have come up with their own unique solutions or ideas
We’ll come up with a bunch of weekly questions and challenges for you to consider and we’ll share their responses via our social channels.
What's our goal?
We'll use your input to co-create a living manifesto for what a hi-tech / hi-nature life could look like and explore how we are dealing with the complexity of the digital world. As we the digital world develops, we want to make sure that our future generations are protected and retain their connection and curiosity about the natural world.
